We are overjoyed to announce that, after winning an Emmy award this fall, director Jason DaSilva and producer/writer/editor Alice Cook will be joining us LIVE in the studio at this month's DISLABELED Philly film night!
Jason is a prolific filmmaker whose award-winning films have screened at the Sundance Festival and been broadcast nationally on PBS, HBO, and CBC. So it was natural that when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 25, he turned his camera on himself and began documenting his new, everchanging life.
The story of becoming disabled is one of the few tales of disability we see in media, but what separates WHEN I WALK from the rest of the genre is the unfiltered authenticity that is only found in well-crafted, expertly made autobiography. Jason juxtaposes the moments of isolating despair with the empowering passion he discovers in the community as an advocate for equal access and creator of the online tool AXS Map.
